Hi, I’m Jana, the person behind Red Hut Furniture.
I grew up in the Czech Republic and moved to the Scottish Highlands in 2016.
When lockdown began, I was working as a seamstress. I started reupholstering a few chairs, and, to my surprise, they sold very quickly. That gave me the confidence to explore upholstery further, so I travelled to Manchester for professional upholstery training.
I set up what became Red Hut Furniture in October 2021.
The following spring, I was lucky enough to find my current studio – Red Hut, a former fisherman’s hut in the Seaboard villages of Easter Ross.
It’s a basic structure, but I fell in love with its location. Who else gets to spend their lunchtime on the beach?
The seascape, nature and wildlife around me are a constant source of inspiration and are very much part of what makes Red Hut Furniture special.
Five years of Red Hut Furniture
It’s now five years since I started this adventure.
I love spending my time designing and making unique vintage and upholstered pieces. Sometimes that means working on a commission for a customer; other times, creating one-off pieces to sell through Alchemist Gallery in Dingwall.
Over the years, I’ve also made countless bespoke cushions, including:
Window seat cushions
Campervan cushions
Bench cushions
Boat cushions
You name it – in all sorts of shapes, sizes, colours and styles.
As well as custom cushions, I make bespoke headboards and provide chair and sofa upholstery, furniture repairs and restoration.
Sometimes a repair is easier than you might think, so if you have a piece of furniture that needs some attention, it’s always worth getting in touch and asking.
Commercial upholstery and seating
I also work with businesses looking to refurbish or furnish hotels, restaurants, pubs and other commercial spaces.
I make bespoke upholstered benches and seating for commercial interiors, designed to suit the space, style and practical requirements of each project.

Upholstery in Inverness and the Scottish Highlands
I live in Inverness and work from my workshop in the Seaboard villages of Easter Ross.
I offer collections and deliveries, and work with customers across the Highlands and beyond. My customers are based in Inverness, the Black Isle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stornoway and anywhere in between.
